A 19-year old man was arrested by the Alwar police on Thursday, 10 May, for allegedly raping a seven-month old girl.
“We have arrested Pintu Joshi, 19, son of Sohanlal, for raping a seven-month-old child on Wednesday,” Prahlad Sahay, Station House Officer of Laxmangarh police station, told The Indian Express.
The girl’s father, who had filed a complaint with the Alwar police, said he had left his daughter with his visually-impaired sister-in-law at home, while the rest of the family was away for work.
The family then began to search for her, and almost an hour later, she was found bleeding and injured in a field which was a kilometre away from the house.
The father alleged Pintu had raped her and left her bleeding on the field. He claimed Pintu, who was on the run, was shielded by a neighbour, Suresh Chandra Joshi, at his home.
Following this, Alwar Superintendent of Police Rahul Prakash directed Additional SP (rural) Mool Singh Rana and Laxmangarh Circle Officer Sanjana Saini to take over the case.
With the help of some locals, the police were able to track down Pintu and apprehend him.
Dr Mahesh Sharma, a paediatrician at Geeta Nand Government Hospital, told The Indian Express that the girl has been shifted to the gynaecology ward.
Meanwhile, Pintu has been booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 A (Procuration of minor girl) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code, and several relevant sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
