Five Maharashtra police officers were suspended on Friday, 26 October, for giving special treatment to Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood Ibrahim’s brother.
A sub-inspector was among the suspended officials, although the names of the suspended police officers were not revealed by the police.
Madhukar Pandey, Joint commissioner of Thane police, had issued the suspension order after a private channel recorded Kaskar receiving special treatment by police officers, reported Hindustan Times.
He had complained of chest pain and toothache on Thursday, 25 October, after which the court had ordered his medical check up. He was seen smoking cigarettes in the presence of police, and was served biryani as well.
Kaskar, along with two of his aides, was arrested in September last year and is being kept in Thane central jail. This was not the first time Iqbal was taken to the hospital.
Devraj also confirmed that a day after Kaskar was taken to the hospital, a video was shown to the senior officer which initiated the suspension order.
