21 ‘Hazardous’ Hauz Khas Village Restaurants Sealed

The restaurants didn’t have consent to establish or consent to operate certificates.

In a blow to the popular party hub, 21 restaurants in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas village were sealed for failing to obtain environmental clearances, reported the Hindustan Times.

The establishments were allegedly handed closure notices nearly four months ago, the sub-divisional magistrate of Hauz Khas, Ramchandra M Shingare told the newspaper.

It is compulsory to have consent to establish (CTE) or consent to operate (CTO) certificates, to run restaurants and hotels in Delhi, but the 21 restaurants which have now been sealed, were found possessing neither.

In response to the Hindustan Times, Ramchandra M Shingare, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Hauz Khas, said:

Consent to establish is the first step for any industry or trade to begin operations and the permission is given within four months of it being applied for. The CTO certificate is given by the DPCC. You need these to run an establishment along with clearances from the police, fire and corporation health departments.

The restaurants have been sealed under under section 33A of Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and section 31A of Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
