The Delhi Police have made an arrest in the case where a 17-year-old girl, Simran, was shot dead inside a car in the capital’s Najafgarh area on 21 December.
The accused, Shubham Gupta, was arrested in Haryana on Friday. He had been absconding since having allegedly shot Simran in a Mercedees parked in front of her house.
The 23-year-old accused will be questioned in order to determine the sequence of events that led up to the crime. According to the Times of India, the police have also recovered some video clips from Shubham’s phone, where he can be seen showing off a gun.
During preliminary investigation, Shubham revealed that he was upset with Simran as she was getting repeated phone calls from her friend, Nitin, police told the daily. Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Kumar told IANS that Shubham had confessed to the crime.
On the day of the shooting, Simran and her friends Shubham and Yogesh had gone to Rajouri Garden, IANS reported.
Police said that the accused had shot the teenager inside the car after an argument about Nitin.
Her mother told the police that she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood when she rushed to the car after hearing a gunshot.
While Shubham fled from the spot, the victim's mother and her friend Yogesh took her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead, police said.
