Over 50 passengers have been injured in the train derailment mishap near Kanpur. While 42 of the injured have been admitted to a district hospital in Kanpur Rural, 12 of the seriously injured have been admitted to the Hallet Hospital.
There were unconfirmed reports that the railway guard was among those injured.
Financial Assistance
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured in the mishap and Rs 25,000 to those who suffered minor wounds.
No Deaths: Railway Ministry
The Ministry of Railways has clarified that there has been no death reported yet after the train’s derailment whereas 44 people have been injured.
This conflicts with earlier reports of 2 people being declared dead after the mishap.
The number of injured has increased to 43 according to the District Magistrate, Kumar Ravikant.
Alternate Arrangements Being Made
The District Magistrate of Kanpur, Kumar Ravikant has said that alternate arrangements are being made for passengers.
The passengers are being rescued. Alternate arrangements are being made for those who wish to continue with their journey.

Ex Gratia to be Paid
Ex gratia will be paid to all those injured. All passengers are being provided with necessary assistance to ensure least inconvenience to them.

Rescue Operations Over
The rescue operations have ended. Most of the passengers have been moved from the site of the accident and train tickets are being issued to passengers from the nearest railway station.
Cause Not Ascertained
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined. No tampering with railway tracks has been found so far and fog is not being ruled out as a cause currently.
Two people have died while 28 have been hospitalised after the Sealdah-Ajmer train derailed near Kanpur, early on Wednesday morning.
Medical Help Being Provided
The Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed between Rura-Metha at about 5.20 am, around 50 kms from Kanpur, according to a statement by the Ministry of Railways.
Personally monitoring the situation in wake of the unfortunate derailment of Sealdah-Ajmer express. I have directed senior officials to reach the site immediately. Immediate medical help is being provided to the injured.

The minister also said that a thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the derailment.
There is no indication of any casualties so far. Ambulances and medical relief teams have reached the spot.

On Wednesday morning, 14 coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed near Kanpur’s Roora.
Several persons have been injured.
Rescued teams have rushed to the spot.
This incident comes just a moth after an Indore-Patna train derailed near Kanpur on 22 November, which led to the death of 150 people on board.
