Thousands flocked the roads of Bengaluru, pledging to take Gauri Lankesh’s fight forward. Police estimated that about 4,000 to 5,000 people participated in the ‘I Am Gauri’ rally.
Echoes of voices chanting “I am Gauri, we are Gauri”, could be heard as citizens marched from Bengaluru city railway station to Central College ground, where a convention was conducted.
At the Central College, the organisers made it clear that the rally was not a condolence meeting, but a show of strength and unity.

A national-level rally organised by the Gauri Lankesh Hatya Virodhi Horata Vedike is being held in Benguluru to protest the killing of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh.
Announcing the rally ‘I am Gauri – Save Our Democracy’, senior Kannada writer K Marulasidappa said:
Several writers and eminent persons are taking part in the rally at the Central College ground, K Neela, convener of the organisation, told The Hindu.
The rally is being held from the Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station to the Central College ground. According to News 18, 300 police personnel have been deployed to manage the crowd.

Who Was Gauri Lankesh?
A distinguished Indian journalist critical of Hindu nationalist politics, Lankesh was shot dead outside her residence in Bengaluru, late on 5 September.
Known for her brazen and outspoken attitude, Lankesh, 55, was the editor of the weekly tabloid, Lankesh Patrike. The tabloid, published in Kannada, was run by a group of 50 people.
According to the local police, she was walking home after parking her car, when unidentified assailants shot her at close range, between 8 pm and 8.30 pm.
Addressing a press conference a day after her death, Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah said a police team has been set up to investigate the case.
Several journalists’ bodies held protests across major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, as a mark of protest.
