In a shocking incident that took place in Alwar district, Rajasthan, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by her husband and his two brothers who later tattooed expletives on her forehead and hand after her family could not fulfill their dowry demand, police revealed on Monday.
The victim has alleged that since her marriage in January 2015, her husband and in-laws had taken to beating her as she could not fulfill their demand of dowry of Rs 51,000.
Expressing shock over the incident, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi asked the National Commission for Women (NCW) to probe the matter.
The victim who still has the tattoos on her forehead and hands to remind her of the humiliation, is living with her parents currently, Mahila police station SHO Abdul Wahid revealed.
An FIR has been registered under sections 498-A (Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence Act), 376 (punishment for rape)and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of IPC and an investigation in the case has been initiated, he said.
The police are yet to make any arrests in the case.
