Two policemen were injured on Tuesday when a mob allegedly set to fire a police outpost and six two-wheelers as they protested an encroachment drive by the civic body on Ajwa Road in Vadodara.
The mob of 200 attacked officials of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) when they reached Suleiman-Ni-Chal locality to carry out the demolition, according to the police officials. Two policemen sustained minor injuries. Teargas was used to disperse the mob.
The VMC is on a major demolition drive across the city as part of Smart City project. It issued a notice on 28 May, giving three days to people who were living “illegally” in the locality to evacuate. The people erected around 227 temporary houses on a plot which is reserved for a garden.
