The US on Thursday announced that Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), is a “foreign terrorist organisation” (FTO). It also included its chief Asim Umar on its list of global terrorists.
The consequences of this decision includes freezing all their property and interests in the US and a prohibition against knowingly providing, or attempting or conspiring to provide, material support to the organization.
AQIS, a regional branch of the global terror network, had previously claimed responsibility for the 6 September 2014 attack on a naval dockyard in Karachi and for the murders of activists in Bangladesh.
