Police has arrested the two accused, Junaid and Reyaan, in connection with the murder case of NIA Deputy SP Mohammad Tanzil Ahmad. The main accused, Muneer, who fired the shots, is yet to be arrested.
Uttar Pradesh police had claimed that the officer was shot dead on 3 April by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants over a “personal animosity arising out of a property dispute” near Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor town.
One of the accused, Reyaan said “Muneer knows the real motive. Ahmad’s behaviour towards us wasn’t good.” Another accused Junaid said, “I had no enmity towards Tanzil Ahmad, abetted Muneer out of friendship.”
The NIA official was shot 21 times when he was driving back home from a family wedding in Bijnor. While he died on the spot, his two children survived the attack and his wife, who sustained four gunshot wounds, was admitted to a Noida hospital.
Tanzil Ahmad was involved in probing some sensitive cases related to Indian Mujahideen and the Pathankot terror attack.
