Terrorists robbed a branch of J&K Bank in the Arihal area of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, on Thursday.

Masked gunmen carrying AK-47s looted Rs 13.38 lakh from the bank. A bank official said that except for Rs 2.23 lakh of the looted money, the remaining amount of Rs 11.15 lakh were in new notes.

Sources said that the Home Minister has asked the Centre to deploy adequate security cover for banks and vehicles transporting the new currency.

The MHA also sought for a detailed report on the robberies.

Earlier in November, a bank in Budgam was robbed of Rs 13 lakh by LeT members.
