The encounter in Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramullah district ended on Wednesday afternoon, with security forces killing a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Abu Bakr.
Security forces have also recovered arms and ammunitions from the site of the encounter.
The army and police had earlier conducted search operations in the Bomai area of Sopore, where terrorists were believed to be hiding.
Another militant was killed in an earlier encounter in Anantnag district on Wednesday.
Militants had opened fire on an army patrol party at Beewra in Anantnag district’s Srigufwara area in the morning, a police official said. One militant, identified as Basit Ahmad Dar, was killed in the encounter. Dar had recently joined the Hizbul Mujahideen.
