The Uttar Pradesh police has stopped BJP MLA Sangeet Som’s rally outside Kairana. Som complied with the police, saying party workers would not do anything to affect law and order. Section 144 – prohibition on assembly of more than 10 persons in an area – had earlier been imposed in Kairana.

Earlier, Som had said he would carry out the ‘Nirbhay Yatra’ in Kairana despite the local administration’s decision to now allow it.

We have given 15 days’ notice to the state government to bring back families who’ve migrated or we’ll be forced to come on the streets.

The rally, starting from Meerut, had been announced in light of the BJP MP Hukum Singh’s report on the alleged ‘Kairana exodus’.

Samajwadi Party’s Shivpal Yadav said the party would not let BJP “vitiate atmosphere” in Kairana.

Whoever has gone has left Kairana for professional reasons. After Gujarat riots many people migrated, first Sangeet Som and Modi ji should worry about that. In Kairana no one migrated
