Internet sensation Qandeel Baloch’s brother Wasim has confessed to having drugged the Pakistani model before strangling her to death, to protect the honour of the Baloch people. The Express Tribune Pakistan reported that Wasim, who is a drug addict, further added that he was in his senses while taking his sister’s life and is proud to have brought relief to his parents and community with the act.
Wasim was arrested from Dera Ghazi Khan and City Police Officer (CPO) Multan told the media in Pakistan that investigations continue to arrest two other individuals who helped Wasim in plotting the crime.
What now clearly appears to be a case of honour killing, have been confirmed by Wasim’s views on women and why they are meant to stay at home.
Wasim Baloch proudly admitted to having committed the crime at a press conference held on 16 July. While it was earlier reported that Qandeel had been shot, Wasim’s admission clarifies that the social media sensation was drugged and strangled.
According to the post mortem report conducted by a panel of three doctors at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, she was murdered between 9 and 10pm late on Friday evening. Her death was reported to a rescue team on Saturday morning, around 11am. Her body was shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan around 2pm on Saturday afternoon, and it remained there for more than 14 hours as her parents were coming to receive it after the autopsy.
Fauzia Azeem aka Qandeel Baloch had recently taken the internet by storm as she shared a few selfies and a video of herself with a cleric named Mufti Qawi. The self-proclaimed model had also ridiculed Qawi on various TV channels bringing to light the double standards of the religious preacher.
Soon after she fled to Multan but did not disclose her location due to security threats that she was receiving. Qandeel’s brothers had asked her to quit modelling and to stop bringing shame to the family by getting involved with clerics.
The police have registered an FIR under Section 302/109 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Muzaffarabad police station against Qandeel’s brother Wasim, after the model’s father nominated him in the case.
