‘2019 is Extra Special’: President Kovind’s Republic Day Address

President Ram Nath Kovind stressed on the significance of the present year in his address on the eve of the Republic Day. He also said that "this (Republic Day) is an occassion to commemorate the values of our democracy and republic."
President Kovind pointed out how “India is at the doorstep of eliminating poverty for the first time” and how India’s daughters have done her proud with their contributions in various fields.”

"This year is a little extra special. On 2 October we will mark the 150th birthday of Mahatama Gandhi...On 26 November, we will mark the 70th anniversary of the adoption of our constitution."
"The values inculcated in our democracy and our constitution are also the values that uphold the supremacy of the people of India.”
"This year we also have the additional responsibility of voting in the Lok Sabha elections. This year's election will be the first when those born in the 21st century will vote and contribute to the election process."
President Kovind stressed on the importance of voting and urged one and all to go out and vote for the candidate of their choice.
Further stressing on how India is eliminating poverty, President Kovind expressed pride over the new "entreprenureal energy" and "infectious start up culture" of India.
Apart from education, art, medicines and sports, our daughters are now creating an identity for themselves in the three Armed Forces as well. In topmost educational institutes, often there are more daughters than sons among medal-winning students.”
