Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning arrived in Mozambique as part of a four-nation tour of African nations aimed at enhancing ties with that continent, particularly in the economic sphere.

Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi. He will also meet with Veronica Macomo, President of Mozambique’s National Assembly.

During the day, the minister will interact with students at the Science and Technology Park, Maluana and address the country’s Indian community.

This is the Prime Minister’s first official visit to mainland Africa.

Beginning of a New Africa Chapter?

Modi will then travel to South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya. The focus of the visit will be on deepening cooperation in areas of hydrocarbons, maritime security, trade and investment, agriculture and food.
