The encounter in Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir has turned into a lock-down situation, with three alleged militants trapped inside a government building.

The militants are believed to be in the premises of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute after opening fire on security forces.

According to reports, two CRPF men have been killed in cross firing.

The building, on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, had over 100 civilians trapped inside it but has now been evacuated while search operations continue.

Militants are believed to have opened fire on a CRPF bus in Pulwama district, near the EDI complex. According to the police, security forces present at the spot had retaliated.

Six CRPF personnel were injured in the initial firing, the official said. At least one militant had entered the EDI complex while fleeing. Over 100 students are believed to be undergoing training in entrepreneurship on the premises when the incident took place.

The official said that around 50 staffers were also present inside the complex.

“Over 70 people have been evacuated from various sides of the complex so far and efforts are on to rescue the others as well. Additional forces have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon around the EDI complex”, he added.
