Renowned Pakistani qawwali singer Amjad Sabri was shot dead on Wednesday in Karachi when unknown gunmen fired at his car. The attack took place in Liaquatabad area, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported.
Sabri and an associate were in the car when the gunmen opened fire, critically injuring him. The two were rushed to a hospital where Sabri succumbed to his injuries. He is one of the Sabri Brothers, a Sufi Qawwali party from Pakistan.
The Sabri brothers have had a long legacy in India. Their songs Bhar Do Jholi Meri in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Tajdar-e-Haram, rendered by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam in Coke Studio, became hugely popular in India.
