Even as protests and violence continued across India against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra has agreed to hear another petition demanding the deletion of scenes from the film.

Chief Justice Dipak Misra agreed to hear the petition on 29 January, following a fresh plea filed in the Supreme Court by advocate ML Sharma on Wednesday, 24 January.

This is the third petition filed by Sharma against Padmaavat. According to a CNN-News18 report, the two previous petitions filed by him were dismissed by the Chief Justice.

Sharma's previous petitions were dismissed after the Supreme Court demanded to know whether the Central Board of Film Certification had given the movie an official certification.

The Apex Court pulled up Sharma, after he responded that the CBFC had, in fact, not given the film an official ranking at the time.

When the matter is pending the consideration of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), how can persons holding public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue certificate or not? That will prejudice the decision of the CBFC.

Sharma shot into limelight as the lawyer who represented the convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape case.

Sharma’s third petition against Padmaavat is now scheduled for hearing on 29 January.
