The AAP today demanded a complete ban on the unlicensed aap-based cab services, particularly Ola and Uber in the entire NCR region after a 23-year-old Belgian national was allegedly molested by an Ola cab driver in south east Delhi’s C R Park area last night. External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj has also condemned the incident and has asked for a report from Lt. Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung.
The AAP also demanded a “coordinated and severe crackdown” on taxi companies in the entire NCR so that the message is loud and clear that there will be no compromise on women safety. The party said the latest incident shows that the taxi aggregator companies are still not doing their due diligence before registering drivers on their Apps.
Asserting that women safety cannot be compromised at any cost, it said that all the state governments in the National Capital Region – Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh must show zero tolerance on this issue.
“Ola and Uber in particular have repeatedly shown scant regard for the rule of law. They are not ready to share the data of drivers and vehicles registered with them nor are they serious in checking the legal documents and antecedents of drivers being registered with them,” the statement added.
By reintroducing surge pricing the day after the Odd-Even rule ended, these app-based cab services have been under the radar of the AAP. Earlier, CM Kejriwal was to introduce a policy to reign in these private services by laying down fares and permit requirements.
