Diamantaire Nirav Modi’s lawyer Vijay Aggarwal has expressed confidence in his client’s innocence in the largest ever bank fraud case in the history of India. He has also questioned on what basis is he being labelled a fugitive.
According to an ANI report, Vijay Aggarwal asserted that his client was not an absconder.
Maintaining that his client is not an absconder, Vijay Aggarwal said that Nirav Modi went out of India for business purposes and that his family members also stay abroad most of the time.
According to a BloombergQuint report, Aggarwal told ANI that the PNB fraud is set to collapse the same way that the 2G scam did.
Aggarwal also told ANI that he believes that the fate of the case is 'khoda paahad, nikali chuiya’ and that the strategy of the case will be worked out once the CBI files the chargesheet.
Nirav Modi is the main accused in an alleged fraud of over Rs 11,300 crore at Punjab National Bank.
(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
