Former Chief Minister of both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, ND Tiwari passed away on his 93rd birthday.
Tiwari was hospitalised on 20 September, 2017 after he suffered a brain stroke. He was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Max Hospital in New Delhi on 7 July for an infection in his kidneys and low blood pressure. He breathed his last on Thursday, 18 October.
Hours before his death, ND Tiwari's son, Rohit, had reportedly celebrated Tiwari's 93rd birthday with a cake.
ND Tiwari was a three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and one-time chief minister of Uttarakhand.
He has also served as India's External Affairs Minister and the Minister of Finance and Commerce, besides being the 21st Governor of Andhra Pradesh. In the early 1990s he was also a contender for the seat of the Prime Minister of India.
ND Tiwari was embroiled in controversies in the 2000s, that included a sex scandal while he was Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He also had to undergo a paternity suit which reunited him with his son Rohit Shekhar Tiwari and in 2014 he married Rohit's mother Ujjwala Tiwari, in Lucknow.

According to ANI, UP CM Yogi Adityanth also expressed his sadness at Tiwari’s passing away.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi has tweeted his condolences.
According to ANI, the Uttarakhad government has announced a three-day state mourning. The national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government offices throughout the state during the this period.
