A Special Court on Tuesday sent Anand Joshi, an MHA official, to jail for issuing FCRA notices arbitrarily to several NGOs for financial gains.
He was sent to 14-day judicial custody till 6 June after he was produced before the court on expiry of his CBI custody.
The CBI had claimed that files relating to several NGO’s were recovered from Joshi’s house which were missing from the Home Ministry. CBI further alleged that Joshi had been issuing notices dishonestly to many NGOs/societies registered under the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) 2010, which were receiving foreign contributions, in a random manner.
