Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi was once again mired in controversy after she was caught on camera on Friday, 16 February, allegedly using a cuss word to rebuke an Uttar Pradesh official accused of corruption. Reportedly, Gandhi also body-shamed the official.
In the viral video, Gandhi can be seen rebuking and body-shaming a food and civil supply department inspector after locals and party members accused him at a public meeting in Baheri block being chaired by her.
The minister later told reporters that she would initiate an investigation against the officials posted in Baheri for corruption in the public distribution system (PDS), blame for which she placed partly with local politicians for turning a blind eye.
Her alleged comment has received much criticism, with Shiv Sena spokesperson, Manisha Kayande slamming her behaviour in the party’s mouthpiece Saamna, while bringing in the latest Punjab National Bank corruption scandal to have broken out and the government’s refusal to even comment on it.
The minister is yet to address the response to her comments.
