In five days, more than 15,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org to get the Parliament to function.

The monsoon session of the Parliament has been a complete washout.

Perpetual disruption can never be the rule. Street demonstrations against the Chair of the Lower House are of unprecedented scale. The Lower House is without some opposition members. The Upper House is perpetually adjourned.

The Parliament has failed to have even one fully functional day – as the opposition continues to protest against the government defensive on three ministers in the Vyapam and Lalit Modi controversies.

A large number of notable persons have signed the petition, such as – President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Sumit Mazumder; Rahul Bajaj of the Bajaj Auto Industries, Vipin Sondhi of JCB India, among others.

Ironically, even as the petition continues to make the rounds clamouring for a functioning Parliament, the latter is far from it. Protests in Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are going strong even on the second last day of this session.
