The Congress-led UDF government in Kerala and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy won a reprieve on Friday. The Kerala High Court put on hold, a lower court’s order for registering an FIR against Chandy and Kerala’s Power Minister in the solar panel scam case.

Chandy and state Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed’s petition came up before Justice P Ubaid, who put the lower court’s order on hold for two months.

The second accused in the solar scam case, Saritha S Nair levelled bribery allegations against the chief minister on Wednesday. She stated before the inquiry commission that she gave Rs1.90 crores to a person called Thomas Kuruvilla that was meant for Chandy. She had also alleged that Power Minister Mohammed also was given Rs 40 lakh.

Chandy however, hit back asking, “According to that lady, she spent a huge amount. What benefit did she get from us?”

Based on Nair’s statements activist PD Joseph approached the Thrissur Vigilance Court on Wednesday. Following that, Justice SS Vasan had ordered an FIR to be registered against Chandy and Aryadan Mohammed.

Soon after the Kerala High Court rapped his decision, Justice Vasan reportedly offered to resign even though he has two more years before retirement.
