Indian Military Academy Demotes 16 Cadets for “Indiscipline”

In a rare case of strict action, the Indian Military Academy demoted 16 cadets on account of ‘improper’ conduct.

A total of 16 under-training cadets of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, have been demoted in a rare disciplinary action. The cadets were demoted for beating up their juniors and taking objectionable pictures of them, reports Times of India.

The cadets have been asked to repeat the six-month course for “violating the academy’s standing orders and breaking discipline”.

There is zero tolerance for any indiscipline in the IMA.

On the other hand, a senior cadet disagreed with the punishment calling it “unjustified”.

Every year, juniors study under the mentorship of the seniors in the initial months. This is as per the academy’s traditions, and the mentors are allowed to give punishments to their juniors.

Having been “relegated to the next junior course”, the demoted cadets will now pass out of the academy in December, instead of June.
