A 12-year-old girl is in critical condition after being allegedly raped by two people in Bedivan Madhuvan village. The incident triggered protests by locals who blocked National Highway 28 demanding a speedy trial on Thursday, police said.
On 15 June, the girl had gone to collect mangoes in an orchard where the two accused gangraped her, according to the complaint lodged by her family.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father said he was being coerced by two villagers to withdraw the case.
The demonstrators blocked the NH 28 and burnt tyres, demanding that the accused be given “exemplary punishment” and the trial be facilitated, a police officer said. The victim is now being treated in Patna Medical College and Hospital and her condition is critical as she received serious internal injuries, her family said.
This incident comes on the heels of another gangrape reported in Motihari on Thursday where a 21-year-old was sexually assaulted and her genitals mutilated.
A grim reminder of the Nirbhaya gangrape, the assailants allegedly inserted a pistol and wooden objects into her genitals. The girl was immediately admitted to the hospital and is in a critical condition.
“My daughter has been raped. Police came and took her to hospital. As of now the police has done nothing. They have not caught the culprits,” the victim’s mother said.
The incident was first reported on Thursday morning by local media outlets.
The accused, identified as Samiullah, had earlier molested the girl.
Samiullah reportedly shot footage of the girl while molesting her and used it to blackmail the victim. Following this, the girl attacked him with a blade. As revenge, Samiullah, along with others, gangraped her. Motihari police has launched a search operation to nab the accused.
