With the Centre under attack over granting a Pakistani probe team to access Pathankot airbase, BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday said, Pakistan has for the first time made “serious efforts” towards investigating a terror case.

During an interaction at the Kolkata press club, Amit Shah said:

First, let me make clear one thing, that Pakistan’s probe team has a limited access to the airbase. They will not enter the airbase nor will they interact with the officials of the Indian Army. They will investigate other things. I agree that for the first time Pakistan has made serious efforts towards the investigation. The results will be known after the investigation gets over.

A five-member Pakistani Joint Investigation Team, including an ISI official, visited the IAF base at Pathankot in connection with the 2 January attack on Tuesday amidst intensified protests by opposition parties.

Congress said that the “red carpet welcome” to JIT raised serious questions about procedural propriety in relation to a compromise on national security.

AAP said instead of allowing Pakistan’s investigation team to visit India to probe Pathankot attack, Indian security agencies should have been sent to Pakistan to “enjoy the hospitality of Pakistan’s government” and “investigate the role of masterminds not only in Pathankot attack but in Mumbai attacks too.”
