As the MCD sanitation workers’ strike enters its tenth day, Delhi High Court has issued a notice to three corporations and sanitation workers’ union to call of their strike. The sanitation workers have been blocking major roads and creating traffic jams to protest the non payment of their salaries.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court had declined to entertain the plea seeking direction to three civic bodies in national capital to take steps to resolve the strike.
“Go to the high court,” said a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur as counsel for the petitioner Rahul Birla told it that the Delhi High Court has adjourned the hearing without passing any directions to the civic body.
Meanwhile, Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Friday offered a loan of Rs 300 crore to two municipal corporations for payment of the salaries of its workers and urged the striking employees to end their strike.
On Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal has also promised Rs 551 crore to North and East MCD for payment of Salary of workers. He however, demanded a CBI inquiry into MCDs claiming ‘financial irregularities’.
Delhi HC has asked corporations to respond on strikes under teachers doctors and nurses who also work under institutions controlled by MCD.
