CBI Files Chargesheet in Faridkot Holy Text Desecration Case

A reward of Rs 10 lakh in exchange for information related to the culprits has also been announced by the CBI.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in the case of sacrilege of Sikh holy book – Guru Granth Sahib – in November 2015.

Charges were pressed for following:

  • Theft of the book from Burj Jawaharsingwala on 1 June 2015
  • Defamatory and derogatory posters on 24 and 25 September 2015
  • Sacrilege of the book in Faridkot on 12 October 2015

The CBI has also announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh in exchange of any information related to the culprits in the incidents.

Two people were killed in alleged police firing during a protest in Faridkot’s Bargari against the desecration of the holy book.

Before handing the case of the two deaths to the CBI, the Punjab government had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
