New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) Union Minister V.K. Singh and Rajya Sabha member Vijay Goel organised 'No to Plastic' campaign on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the theme of "one ladoo, one plastic" at the Ajmeri Gate of Chandni Chowk, here on Tuesday.
Part of the "Sewa Saptah", the people were asked to bring plastic items and exchange them with ladoos to celebrate Modi's birthday.
"Old Delhi is the centre of the wholesale market and uses a lot of plastic. Thus, it's important to spread awareness among the businessmen here," said Goel.
The MP said he would also organise a 'padyatra' in the wholesale markets of Delhi and would appeal people to stop using plastics.
He said 1,000 kg of sweets were prepared for the initiative.
Singh said after "Swacchta Andolan" (cleanliness movement), it was time for "No to Plastic Andolan" as well.
The Lok Sabha member from Ghaziabad said, "We will have to bring the youth together by spreading awareness through social media campaigns. They can further spread awareness about the harmful effect of plastic to the people."
