A court in Bihar’s Gaya district remanded Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav alias Bindi Yadav and his wife JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi’s bodyguard Rajesh Kumar on 9 May to a 14-day judicial custody in connection with the murder case of 20 year-old Aditya Sachdeva.
According to police officials, the two were being taken to Gaya Central Jail for interrogation.
The prime accused Rakesh Ranjan Yadav alias Rocky Yadav, the MLC’s son, is still absconding. Rocky Yadav is accused of allegedly shooting a 19-year-old on Saturday night.
The incident took place in the Gaya, Bihar over an overtaking incident between Yadav and the victim, Aditya Kumar Sachdeva’s vehicle.
The parents of the accused Rocky Yadav expressed their concerns about their son.
Bindi Yadav said that his phone has been confiscated by the authorities so he cannot contact his son.
MLC and mother of accused Manorama Devi said that she believes the law will take its course.
According to eye-witnesses, Rocky Yadav beat the victim before the latter was hit by a bullet during the scuffle.
In a related development, four friends of the murdered youth-Md. Nasir, Md. Kaifi, Ankit Kumar and Ayush Agrawal who were travelling with him in car on Saturday night, recorded their statements before the first-class judicial magistrate Rakesh Ranjan Singh narrating the sequence of events leading to their friend’s murder by Rocky Yadav.
Residents of Gaya put up a road blockade for several hours on Sunday, protesting the incident. Immediate arrest of the absconding accused was demanded by the protesters.
Additionally, BJP held protests in Gaya on 9 May, asking for a shutdown in the face of lack of action against the accused by authorities. They chanted slogans against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Responding to the BJP’s allegations of interference in the investigation, Kumar said on Monday the party was trying to “exploit” the case politically.
