The Bali Regional Police chief, Commissioner Grand Hery Wiyanto, informed the media that Indian criminal, Chhota Rajan was arrested on Indian Interpol’s request to Interpol Jakarta.
However, the arrest, he claimed, had nothing to do with his criminal history in the country.
The Bali police is interrogating him. According to Wiyanto, Chhota Rajan has revealed his parents name, and spoken about his operations in India in the past 20 years.
On Thursday, reports claimed that Chhota Rajan had written to Bali police and to the Indian Consul General for help, as he believed his life was under threat. But the Bali police chief denied it and claimed that Rajan is in complete cooperation with Indonesian authorities.
The Interpol of two countries are in direct communication with each other.
According to the Spokesperson of External Affairs Ministry, Vikas Swaroop, the Ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs are in talks to bring Chhota Rajan to India as soon as possible.
Indian envoy to Indonesia, Gurjit Singh, also awaits direction from the Indian government.
Even as the Indonesian authorities are awaiting communication from the Indian government, the possibility of his deportation, and not extradition, is high, according to Wiyanto.
The decision, Wiyanto said, will be taken only after the Indian government contacts its Indonesian counterpart.
The visit of Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari to Indonesia is also expected to provide the necessary communication between the two countries.
