A criminal complaint was filed against AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, at the Karkardooma Court, according to a Deccan Chronicle report. The complaint was filed for “alleged offences of sedition and causing enmity between different groups”, the report stated.
The Police has filed its status report in which it says that no strong evidence was provided by the complainant, on the basis of which an investigation can be carried out, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
The complaint has been filed after the ‘Bharat Mata’ controversy earlier this month. Owaisi had allegedly made a statement saying “even if somebody puts a knife at me, I will not say ‘Bharat Mata ki jai.’”
The Deccan Chronicle report says: “The petitioner had sought a direction to the SHO Karawal Nagar Police Station to lodge an FIR against Owaisi for the alleged wrongdoing under Sections 124A (sedition) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc) of the Indian Penal Code.”
