Six years after his expulsion from the party , the Samajwadi Party nominated Amar Singh for a Rajya Sabha seat on 17 May. Also in the list of proposed candidates for the Rajya Sabha is Beni Prasad Verma.
The decision came after a party meeting with senior leaders at party chief Mulayam Singh’s residence.
Ranvijay Singh and Kamlesh Pathak are nominated for Legislative Council polls. Others include Balram Yadav, Shatrudra Prakash, Yashwant Singh, Bukkal Nawab, Ram Sundar Das and Jagjivan Ram.
Party leader Ram Gopal Verma told the media that the Parliamentary Board has authorised Mulayam Singh to take decision on candidates who will contest for Rajya Sabha and MLC seats.
The Governor, however, said that under the Constitution, MLCs are to be nominated from five fields – literature, art, science, cooperative movement and social service, and that the nominees belonged to none of these categories.
