Bhumata Brigade’s Trupti Desai who headed the movement to ensure unrestricted entry for women into the Shani Shingnapur temple, has now moved to her new target the Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

It’s been three months and finally, women power has won. This is just the beginning. We will continue the fight against gender bias in entry inside temples. On 13 April, we will fight for entry into Mahalakshmi Temple.

In a historic decision, the Shani Shingnapur Temple Trust decided to open its doors to women from Friday, a trustee announced in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

Women were prohibited to worship in the temple earlier. Over 100 male devotees stormed into the inner sanctum of the Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra on Friday morning. After a brief meeting, temple officials decided to allow both men and women to enter the area for prayers.
