The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought Maharashtra governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao’s permission to prosecute former chief minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan, say media reports.
Under the Commission of Enquiry Act, a two-member CBI team has approached the governor, a senior BJP minister has told The Times of India.
The minister has said that the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis was approached by Rao for an opinion from the state cabinet of ministers.
The cabinet unanimously agreed to allow the governor to grant permission to prosecute the Congress party member.
Another BJP member, Kirit Somaiya had asked the governor, Maharashtra CM, and CBI Director, in March 2015, to conduct a CBI probe since Ashok Chavan’s name was not dropped from the list of people named in the Adarsh scam.
In 2013, the then governor of Maharashtra had refused the CBI to prosecute Chavan.
