Aam Aadmi Party has said they are fully geared up fo the Punjab Assembly polls slated for 2017 and dared both SAD and Congress to hold the elections ahead of schedule. There have been media reports suggesting both ruling SAD-BJP alliance and Congress want an early election in Punjab.

Sucha Singh Chhotepur, the Punjab convener of AAP was speaking at a political conference organised on the occasion of Hola Mohalla. Here’s a round-up of what happened:

  • AAP is ready to contest the polls even if SAD and Congress want them to happen in 2 to 6 months says Sucha Singh Chhotepur

  • Media reports suggest that Badal wanted to sacrifice the BJP-SAD government on the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal to attain status of ‘martyrdom.’

  • AAP spokesperson Sanjay Singh calls SYL issue a result of mismanagement by Congress and SAD-BJP government.

  • Singh accused Badal government of nine years of ‘misrule’. He said BJP-SAD alliance may “create division on communal lines” in order to hold early polls

  • AAP MP Bhagwant Mann questioned the government for putting an advertisement for ‘Prosperous Punjab’ when farmers in the state are committing suicide.

  • AAP leader Ashutosh claimed that their party will win at least 100 seats in the upcoming assembly elections.

Punjab is slated to hold elections in 2017 where ‘newcomers’ AAP are seen as a tough opponent to the current SAD-BJP government and the chief opposition party, Indian National Congress.
