David Headley’s cross-examination has been adjourned. According to ANI, it will resume on Wednesday morning at 7 am.
David Headley says that the Enforcement Directorate had funded Headley’s Pakistan visit between 1992-98, according to ANI.
Headley claims he had no income from LeT, he was, in fact, funding them.
As the cross-examination continues, Headley admitted that before this conviction, he had been convicted by US courts for drug smuggling – twice. On both occasions, he signed a plea bargaining agreement, with the US authorities, stating that he will not indulge in criminal activities by joining LeT, which he confessed to have violated.
According to ANI, Headley added that he invested in a few shops in UAE and “some other” investments in Pakistan after 2002.
In his latest revelations, David Headley claims that Pakistani-Canadian resident of Chicago, Tahawwur Rana – co-accused for conspiracy in the 2008 Mumbai attacks – was not in touch with LeT, although he knew of Headley’s association with the terror organisation.
The cross-examination of Pakistani-American LeT terrorist David Coleman Headley – scheduled to go on for four days – in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, is underway.
Headley is being cross-examined by Abdul Wahab Khan, the lawyer of an alleged key plotter of the terror attack, Abu Jundal.
The terrorist-turned-approver refused to answer questions about his wife saying “Interaction with my wife is a personal issue”. To this, the defence Lawyer objected, saying “You are running away from answering questions”.
According to ANI, the court has asked for more citation of law in order to decide whether Abdul Wahab Khan can ask questions related to wife Shazia or not.
According to the wire updates, Headley was asked about referring to certain documents while responding to the prosecutor.
Mumbai Police Commissioner DD Padsalgikar told CNN-IBN that “Headley’s deposition is important from as they are being made before a judicial authority and will go on record.”
Key 26/11 plotter Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal’s lawyer on Monday informed the court that he wanted to cross-examine Pakistani-American accused-turned-approver David Coleman Headley for four days.
Also, Judge GA Sanap, on Monday directed Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam to contact US authorities, check their availability for Headley’s second round of deposition and inform the court by February 25.
Once the availability is checked, the court will fix dates for Headley’s deposition.
Meanwhile, Jundal’s lawyer, Abdul Wahab Khan also moved applications objecting to Headley being made an approver in the 2008 terror attacks case besides making pleas seeking copies of certain documents and CDs.
Earlier on February 13, the last day of Headley’s week-long deposition, the court had adjourned the case for cross-examination by Jundal’s lawyer for a future date.
Headley, who is serving a 35-year jail term in the US in connection with the terror attacks case, had made some damning disclosures about LeT and Al-Qaeda’s plans to target India, during his testimony which began on February 8.
