Google has commemorated Urdu critic and linguist Abdul Qavi Desnavi’s 87th birthday with a doodle.
Desnavi was a prolific Urdu critic and litterateur who authored several books, including books on Abul Kalam Azad, Mirza Ghalib Allama Muhammed Iqbal.
In a tweet, Google described Desnavi as one who had written about those who wrote about love and life.
After getting a postgraduate degree from St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, Desnavi joined the Urdu department in Saifia Post Graduate College, where he mentored several students, many of whom are prominent in Bhopal’s literary circles today.
Besides teaching at Saifia, Desnavi held several positions during his lifetime, including being a member of the All India Anjuman Taraqui Urdu Board, New Delhi, and a Program Advisor with the All India Radio in Bhopal.
Desnavi’s extensive research work includes multiple biographies of Iqbal, Azad, and Ghalib.
The writer-critic died in Bhopal in 2011.
