Tech giant Google on Saturday, 31 August celebrated the 100th birth anniversary of prominent Indian poet and author, Amrita Pritam with a special doodle tribute.
The doodle depicts Pritam sitting in an open area and jotting down notes in her blue diary. Several reports have also suggested that the roses kept next to her in the doodle, is a reference to her autobiography Kala Gulab (Black Rose).
Born on 31 August 1919, in Gujranwala (now in Pakistan), Pritam migrated to India after the Partition in 1947. At the age of 17, she became a published writer and went on to publish 28 novels including Pinjar which was later adapted into a movie in 2003.
She is also known for the poem, 'Ode to Warish Shah', which captures the horrors of partition.
Meanwhile, Twitter users paid tribute to Pritam. She passed away on 31 October 2005.
