Approximately 30 million Indians suffer from asthma – 10 percent of the global total. The alarming levels of Particulate Matter (PM) pollution has led to the likes of air purifiers and face masks flying off the shelves every time air quality levels dip.

Among the slew of products designed to fight air pollution is an invention by a NRI professor in the University of South Florida.

Dr Yogi Goswami's air purifier claims to not only trap the harmful pollutants but also destroy them completely. The purifier, dubbed Molekule, has made it to the Time Magazine’s list of 25 best inventions of 2017.

Dr Goswami, who claims to have researched the matter for 20 years, unveiled the product in July 2017.

Molekule's specialty also includes the technology of Photo Electro-chemical Oxidation (PECO), which eliminates indoor air pollution at a molecular level. Normal air purifiers use the old high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) technology. This technology was invented in 1940s and is limited reducing and not eliminating the particulate content in indoor spaces.

The team behind Molekule is focused on making this technology accessible to all.

We are working towards making indoor spaces free from air pollution irrespective of the place people live in. Eventually we want clean air to be available for all.
