On Tuesday, poachers killed a rhino for its horn at the Kaziranga National Park even as Assam Forest and Environment Minister Pramila Rani Brahma and her ministerial colleagues were holding discussions to find a way to end the menace, according to a report in the Assam Times.
This is the seventh Rhino to be killed by poachers in the national park this year, according to Northeast Today. The incident took place at the Demow camp in the Agortoli range, where the gunshot was heard by forest guards.
On 13 April, a rhino was killed when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton were visiting the park.
Brahma, who visited Kaziranga, addressed a gathering of locals and urged people to protect the pride of Assam.
