India along with other countries on Friday displayed a 'Smiley' with lights on important buildings with a slogan 'we did it' on important buildings on a day when "historic" Paris Climate agreement reached last year came into force.
The image has the globe as the background of smiley and along with the image, "Paris agreement - We did it - #SmileforthePlanet" is written on it and was displayed on one side of the Environment Ministry or Paryavaran Bhawan in Jor Bagh.
India ratified the Paris Agreement on 2 October this year on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the agreement has the support of majority of the countries.
The Paris agreement came into force today, 30 days after the date on which at least 55 signatory countries to the Convention accounting for a minimum of 55 per cent of the total global greenhouse gas emissions deposited their instruments of ratification.
The Paris Agreement requires all parties to put forward their best efforts through "nationally determined contributions" (NDCs) and to strengthen these efforts in the years ahead, an official statement said.
Senior Ministry officials had yesterday said that the image will be displayed in other parts of the world as well. In France, the image will be put up on the Eiffel Tower.
"It is a global effort," a top official had said on Thursday.
