The results for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services 2017 examinations were announced on Friday, 27 April. Durishetty Anudeep, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from Hyderabad was declared the topper, while Anu Kumari came in at second place. Sachin Gupta bagged the third rank.
As many as 990 names — 750 men and 240 women — have been recommended for the appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, the Indian Police Service and the Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.
Among the top 25 candidates, 17 are men and 8 women.
Of the candidates recommended for appointment, 476 are from the general category, 275 from OBC, 165 from scheduled caste and 74 from scheduled tribes category, reported PTI.
An IRS officer (Customs and Central Excise cadre) posted as an Assistant Commissioner in Hyderabad, Anudeep reacted to the results saying it was not an easy journey, and thanked all the people who supported him.
Anudeep hails from Metpally in Telangana. He cleared the examination with Anthropology as his optional subject. An OBC candidate, he has graduated with BE (Electronics & Instrumentation) degree from BITS, Pilani, reported PTI.
"We cried a lot when we heard the news over the phone from our son," Anudeep's mother Jyothi said.
The final names that were selected had to go through a three-tier examination process, starting from preliminary, written (mains), to finally a personality test or interview.
In 2016, Nandini KR had aced the civil services examination, while in 2015, Tina Dabi was the topper.
