A third-year student of the University of Delhi's Bharti College has alleged harassment by a professor. She has also written to the University proctor and the Vice Chancellor regarding the incident.
Several students staged a protest at the college campus on Wednesday, 7 February, over the alleged harassment. Speaking to ANI, the student said that she had not lodged a complaint because he “begged” her, adding that the incident happened last year.
In the letter to the VC, the female student claims that she used to get objectionable messages and phone calls from the professor, following which she decided to confront him, reported DNA. A video of the confrontation was also recorded and has reportedly been doing the rounds on WhatsApp.
Responding to the developments, the Acting Principal of the college, Mukti Sanyal, was quoted by DNA as saying:
The student wing of the Congress, National Students' Union of India (NSUI), is also staging a protest against the professor and the college administration. NSUI alleges that the administration is forcing the student to withdraw the complaint and threatening to suspend her from the college despite evidence against the the professor.
The DNA report further stated that till now, no police complaint has been filed in the case.
