A girl child studying in a government school in Model Basti area of Delhi, was allegedly thrown from the first floor by her teacher on Friday morning, 16 December.
The teacher also allegedly hit the child with a pair of scissors and threatened and beat other students in the classroom.
"Geeta Deshwal (teacher) first hit a girl student namely with a small paper cutting scissors and then threw down the child from first floor classroom," said Shweta Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Delhi.
The child was taken to Delhi's Hindu Rao Hospital after the incident and now she has been shifted to Safdarjung hospital for her treatment. She is said to be out of danger for now, the police said.
The girl's father, Laxman, works at a Fire station in Rani Jhansi road, Delhi.
Sanjay, their neighbor, claimed that the child has got several injuries including one on her head. "The doctors at Hindu Rao hospital conducted CT scan and said that the her report are normal. Now they have referred her to Safdarjung hospital," he added.
"Further investigation is being conducted by the department," a senior MCD official told news agency PTI, adding that the civic body will bear all expenditure on the treatment of the child.
Locals and parents of the students studying in the schools gathered around the school when the alleged incident took place. Some students have also claimed that they were hit by the same teacher by sticks and scissors.
Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women also reacted to the incident and said that the teacher should be punished.
"A Delhi MCD school teacher first hit an innocent 5th class girl with a pair of scissors and then threw her from the first floor. My team has reached to meet the child. This teacher should be severely punished!," Maliwal tweeted in Hindi.
