CBI on Thursday arrested Tapas Kumar Dutta, Jharkhand’s Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, after Rs 3.5 crore cash and 5 kg gold was seized during a raid from his Kolkata residence. He will be produced in a Ranchi court on Thursday.

The recoveries were made during simultaneous searches launched by the agency at 23 locations spread across Kolkata and Ranchi, which included the residence of Tapas Kumar Dutta

The raids were related to an ongoing investigation of a case registered against Dutta, three other officials of the Income Tax Department and six private persons, including a chartered accountant, and unidentified others.

The allegations include criminal conspiracy, taking illegal gratification, and criminal misconduct, the sources said.
