According to the GST guidelines, theme and water parks are in the 28 percent tax slab. Earlier a tax of 15 percent was levied on them.
Sad news in store for all cricket fans because after 1 July, sporting events like IPL and racing are going to get more expensive. They will see a rise in taxes from the current 20 to 28 percent.
For all movie tickets that cost less than Rs 100, a tax of 18 percent would be levied. If the ticket price exceeds Rs 100, the tax would go up to 28 percent. It should be noted that so far all states have levied taxes on movie tickets differently depending on the entertainment tax of that respective state.
For instance, in Uttar Pradesh, entertainment tax is marked at 60 percent. This would be replaced by a 28 percent GST. However, entertainment tax which is applied by local authorities would remain unchanged.
While fruits, vegetables, lentils, wheat and bread have been kept outside the ambit of taxes, ice creams, biscuits, chips, chocolates and chewing gums will see a rise in prices. While ice creams and biscuits will be levied 18 percent GST, chocolates and chewing gums will be levied 28 percent.
